Catawba County Park is Bakers Mountain Park . This Park is 189 acres and is located on the highest point of elevation in Catawba County which is 1780 feet. Bakers Mountain Park has with nearly 6 miles of trail to explore along with its Chestnut Oak forest. Abundant wildlife, rare plants and a mixed hardwood forest comprised of mostly Chestnut Oak and Mountain Laurel form part of the park. Located near the top of the mountain is an observation platform and gazebo.
A natural boulder out cropping, a turn of the century house site, and several open meadows make interesting stopping points along the way during a hike. More than 110 species of birds have been observed such as the Brown Creeper, American Goldfinch, Pine Siskin, White-breasted Nuthatch and, the Pine Warbler. Several picnic shelters are located near the park office. 6 miles of hiking trails, Observation platform and gazebo, Picnic areas & grills, 2 covered and 1 enclosed shelter,Leashed dog walking, Quarter mile paved trail - A.D.A. accessible, Educational and volunteer opportunities, and Bird checklists are available.
