Catawba County Airport is Hickory Regional Airport . This Airport was opened on January 17, 2006 but originated in on May 17, 1940 . In the 1940's the Hickory Regional Airport had two unpaved runways which were 2,700 and 3,100 feet in length. Currently, this airport has two runways. Runway 6/24 is 6400 x 150 ft. / 1951 x 46 m and Runway Runway 1/19 dimensions are 4400 x 150 ft. / 1341 x 46 m. The Airports Weight bearing capacity on a Single wheel is 32000 lbs and on a Double wheel 55000 lbs.

Hickory Regional Airport operates an average of 125 Aircraft operations per day. 61% of these operations are transient general aviation, 27% local general aviation, 11% commercial, and 1% military.
