Catawba County is home to the following nine
Libraries: Catawba County Library, Claremont Branch Library, Conover Express Branch Library,
Maiden Branch Library, Patrick Beaver Memorial Library, Ridgeview Branch Library, Saint
Stephens Branch Library, Sherrills Ford Branch, and Southwest Branch Library.
Catawba County Library System
Services are as follows: Computers and Internet Access for the Public, Tours / Instruction/ School
Assignments, Recommended Reading, Tax Forms, Exhibits and Displays, Coin-Operated
Copiers, Meeting Rooms, and ADA Statement. All the Libraries under the Catawba County
Library System have Microsoft Office 2000 suite. This includes: Microsoft Word 2000, Excel 2000,
Publisher 2000, PowerPoint 2000, and Access 2000.
Catawba County Library has two Computer Labs and offers free computer classes on a
monthly basis. The labs are located at the Newton Main Branch and the Conover Express Branch.
Residents of Catawba County may book Meeting rooms of various sizes. The meeting rooms are
available at the Newton , St. Stephens, and Southwest branches. Each library branch maintains
current Accelerated Reading and Reading Counts lists from schools in their area.
Patrick Beaver Memorial Library
approximately has 34,319 registered residents. Their circulation last year was 432,492. Hickory 's
estimated population in 2004 was 38,874, but we are situated in the center of the Hickory MSA,
with a population of 348,000. Their collection houses 115,396 volumes, 9,272 videotapes, and
6,946 audio recordings. Patrick Beaver Memorial Library subscribes to 377 periodicals.
